Baldock Town Partnership / Stevenage & North Herts CTC

The second
BALDOCK CYCLE CHALLENGE
23th June 2013

The Baldock Cycle Challenge is back again, with just a few wee changes.

Organised by the Baldock Town Partnership in conjunction with Ashley Hawkins, NHDC's Community Development Officer for Baldock with assistance from the Stevenage & North Herts CTC and kind sponsorship from Trisports in Letchworth. This ride is your opportunity to explore some of the parishes and wonderful countryside around the town of Baldock.

It is not a race. You can choose the ride the whole event or just loop A starting at 10a.m. or just loop B starting at 1pm. No mountains but expect a few Hertfordshire hills. This ride is suitable for racing bikes, hybrids and mountain bikes but not for Bmx!

Here's the choice of rides:

Loop A. Baldock, Bird Hill, Hickmans Hill, Clothall, Weston, Damask Green, Warrens Green, Halls Green, Luffenhall, Rushden, Roe Green, Sandon, Therfield, Wallington and back to Baldock.

Loop B. Baldock, Bygrave, Ashwell, Steeple Morden,Litlington, Abington Piggotts, Shingay, Guilden Morden, Eyeworth, Edworth, Hinxworth, Ashwell, Newnham, Caldecote and back to Baldock.

Or you can do the whole lot!

The start and finish for all rides will be in Baldock High Street (SG7 6AX). Not far from Baldock Railway Station and there will be plenty of parking for those coming by car.

There will be check points to make sure the correct route is followed. These will often be at or near cafés, tea rooms, village halls or pubs so no-one should go hungry or thirsty. Every rider will get a route sheet, map and a check card. You get your card timed, stamped and signed at every control. After ratification it becomes your proof that you've done the ride.

We also plan to hand out certificates on the day, as well as a cake/donut/muffin for all who complete the course. The Baldock Town Partnership will also be running a bbq at the start / finish point throughout the day. So why not arrive just before 10am and enjoy a bacon bap with a cup of tea or coffee and then when you have completed the challenge why not enjoy a burger or hot dog. If the weather is good we may even run an outside bar to quench your thirst after your adventure around Baldock and its many villages.

Independent or unattached riders and all newcomers will be very welcome. Unfortunately entries can only be accepted on the day if there is sufficient space and cards, so please enter by 17 June or you may be disappointed. It really helps us if you enter by the closing date. If any entries can be taken on the day they will cost extra. Routes, maps and other information including how to enter the ride on-line will be available for viewing and downloading on the Baldock Town Partnership at www.baldocktown.co.uk from Friday 29th March. No ride information will be posted out so please check the website for any updates. All riders will be given a map of the route, a leaflet detailing the route and a check card on the morning of the race. All riders must pick up their check card prior to starting the ride. Race information will also be available at www.northhertsctc.org.uk. Entries so far will be displayed on the website. Please don't forget your entry fee when sending off your ride booking form. By all means photocopy if you need more entry forms.

Please note you must have started the second loop by 1p.m. and the finish will close at 5:30p.m. Under 18s must have their entry form countersigned by a parent or carer and under 16s should bring a responsible adult. You are advised not to use earphones (iPods, etc) on the ride as you will not be able to hear other riders, traffic and any instructions.

Please send your entry form plus cheque for the entry fee to:
